Messenger Service Internship is a summer mission and internship experience for Annex students, sponsored by Grace Commons Church in Boulder. It is an opportunity for students to step out of their comfort zone, serve others and grow their faith. For over 30 years the Messenger Service Internship has sent almost 350 students all over the world. It is a program rich in history and rooted in excellence. Annex believes that Messenger is one of the most life-changing, transformative decisions any college student can make.
Because of Jesus, we believe that we are able to bridge the gap of cultural barriers, making room for a glimpse of the Kingdom of God in the midst of increasing intercultural tension and animosity. Messenger is a vital, historical ministry here at the Annex, and part of our Core Four. We believe that it echoes our desire to focus our efforts on the Kingdom of God, foster a lifelong investment towards service, and solidify eternal friendships across the world.
Annex believes that God will mold and form Messengers in three main ways: Spiritual and Personal Growth, a missional focus in life through Cross-Cultural Service, and Future Preparedness: |
Spiritual & Personal GrowthThrough training, devotions, and service, we believe that you will grow in your journey as a follower of Jesus. We pray that, as you serve in a different culture, God will open your heart and spirit to new ways of thinking, living, worshiping and serving. Your experience will help shape the way you think about investing your resources of time, money, energy, and attention for the rest of your life. Messenger Service Internship offers you the gift of stepping into the unknown, the gift of discomfort and the gift of failure. These experiences may seem difficult at times, but ultimately it will bring about positive growth and transformation in your life.

Cross-Cultural ServiceChrist followers are called to “Love God and love your neighbor” (Mark 12:30-31). Annex believes that each person should learn their strengths and engage wholeheartedly in service, whether globally or in their own backyard. With Jesus as an example, we must love and serve the marginalized regardless of race, ethnicity, religious tradition, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, mental ability, or socioeconomic status, while also honoring the dignity and traditions of those we serve. Annex believes that Messenger not only offers you an incredible opportunity to go out and serve the world, but also will equip you with a heart of service as you step back into your own communities.

Future PreparednessFor decades, past Messengers have counted their experience to be game-changing in the vocational direction of their lives, and to be their most asked about experience on their resume in interviews! Upon returning, Messengers continue to develop and use their God-given strengths to better the Kingdom of God, while also discerning fluid professional and vocational callings. The ability to be attuned to the needs of others, increased emotional awareness and empathy, and how to connect with people in difficult situations are invaluable skills that Messengers are able to utilize on a frequent basis; skills that set them apart as leaders in their professional and relational circles.
