Sabbath is an ancient spiritual practice that aligns with God and his Kingdom in our present life. It was a practice that Jesus himself held in his life as well as his disciples. While ancient, it has extraordinary power to restructure our hearts and lives that are firmly anchored in Rest, Love and communion with God. Sabbath is the weekly practice of abstaining from work, productivity and activities that generate day to day fatigue (and often stress) and enjoy rest and restful activities that connect us to God and others. In many ways, Sabbath is counterintuitive and counter-cultural to how we've been taught to live "the good life". People that practice Sabbath regularly find it to be the anchor and 'best day' of their week. Getting to that point probably won't happen quickly and may take many tries, tweaks and restructuring of your entire week to establish this practice long-term.
The Annex Sabbath Retreat and the Tuesday Night talks leading up to it, hope to provide a vision, intention and means to integrate Sabbath as a core part of your life as a college student in Boulder. We anticipate that the best approach to the weekend is to have high resolve to do and not do the things that structure a restful Sabbath and low expectations about how it may feel as you learn something new and potentially very different.
